The Dialler Input communicator, which interfaces
to alarm control panels with a PSTN signalling output, has been
upgraded to handle the standard 2400-baud and 1200-baud remote
connection for UDL. The older 300-baud rate is still available
for alarm systems that need it. In addition, a new soft modem has
been developed for the UDL computer so that the Terrier SC system
can now provide a complete infrastructure for UDL over IP.
The upgraded Dialler
Input communicator connects to the PSTN output of any alarm control
panel and handles Fast Format, Contact ID and SIA alarm signalling
protocols with very few restrictions. Since
the communicator is constantly connected to the monitoring centre
this IP connection is also available for a UDL computer to remotely
interrogate the alarm panel. So the alarm panel’s log
can be uploaded, changes to the alarm system’s programming
can be made, the system’s users can be remotely managed -
all done securely without any call charges.
As the Terrier
SC system replaces the PSTN connection with an Internet Protocol
connection, it is universal in its application. The
system has been proven in tests with a number of alarm panels and
different manufacturers’ UDL software. Where VOIP telephone
systems are introduced (or where BT’s 21CN is implemented)
the system provides a seamless replacement of PSTN connections
by IP.
Tony Tibbles, managing
director, said: “These
new products mean that PSTN connections
can be replaced by IP simply and seamlessly with all the cost reductions
that this entails. The facility to connect to remote alarm panels
will continue as before … but without the call charges!”. View
